Original drawing of male figures in motion by Arthur Bowen Davies, a famous listed American artist. Apparently working from a model, Davies drew three figures jumping and tumbling. Davies specialized in oil paintings of nudes in the landscape with mythic or allegorical overtones, so these might be preparatory drawings for one of his paintings.
Davies was an important figure in promoting progressive American art in the early 20th Century. He exhibited in the landmark exhibition with the group of Ashcan School painters known as The Eight, protesting the conservative tastes of the National Academy of Design, although his style was lyrical and allegorical as opposed to the Ashcan style of gritty realism. In 1913, he was one of the organizers of the Armory Show, the first major American exhibition of the avant garde Modernism being produced in Europe; the show profoundly influenced the course of American art. According to Askart.com, Davies work is in 91 museum collections.
