Series of sheets mounted with original sketches by French architect Henri Mayeux. Generally grouped as four to six sketches mounted to one larger light blue sheet.

Mayeux drew inspiration from the art of the ancient world and Renaissance, to the Art Nouveau period. The sketches have biblical and classical characters, caricatures, fantastical figures and creatures, etc. Included also are studies of architectural details and ballet costume designs.

All are infused with Mayeux' remarkable sense of whimsy and humor. For example, imagining the artifacts on display at the Louvre in the year 2,900, Mayeux envisioned a sculpture of an early 20th Century woman posed as a sphinx.

Mayeux, a Parisian architect, is best known for designing the Musée National de la Porcelaine Adrien Dubouché - Limoges.
