Specimen sheet of the Union Bank Note Company of Kansas City, Missouri, with dozens of finely engraved vignettes to be selected for use on stocks and bonds, and currency, such as the state seals of Missouri and Kansas; Midwestern buildings, factories, and farms; and a bull and bison. Details of full sheet shown.
One of the vignettes shown above is the State Seal of Kansas, which was established by a joint resolution adopted by the Kansas Legislature May 25, 1861. At the top is the state motto, 'Ad astra per aspera,' (to the stars through difficulties).
