Illustrated biography in French on Napoleon Bonaparte incorporating 36 colorful chromolithographs (four double-page) depicting scenes from his life. These are rendered in an attractive style incorporating the flowing lines of Art Nouveau, and signed with the artist’s initials, “JOB.” Other features include a dramatic full-cover gilt illustration and gilt-edged pages. There are a total of 84 numbered pages, including the illustrations. This book was produced as part of the series Collection D'Albums Historiques.
Georges Montorgueil was one of the pen names of Octave Lebesgue, a French journalist, who began his career in Lyons, and then wrote for several French newspapers under pseudonyms, which also included Jean Valjan and Caribert. Lebesgue’s varied career included writing the lyrics for three dramas, and a number of books and albums on Paris. At the time of his death, he was the editor-in-chief of the publication Temps.
Jacques Onfroy de Breville was a French illustrator who typically signed his work with his initials, “JOB.”
