A photograph album of the great Russian-born ballet dancer, Rudolf Nureyev (1938-1993), in his 1970 performance of "The Ropes of Time," a ballet created for him by choreographer Rudy van Dantzig. The album is comprised of 24 real photographs together with 8 magazine photographic prints mounted on colored paper, and loosely set within protective two-sided clear mylar sleeves. Many of the photographs have the photographers' stamps verso. "The Ropes of Time" was the first Royal Ballet production without an orchestra, danced to taped electronic music. Nureyev's role of The Traveller required immense strength and stamina -- in one section he danced non-stop for 30 minutes. Nureyev was a member of the Royal Ballet company for 28 years.

Leslie E. Spatt was born in New York City, but has spent most of her professional life working from her London home. She is one of the top dance photographers in the world, and has worked with the Royal Ballet and the Birmingham Royal Ballet for more than 30 years, as well as the English National Ballet, the Dutch National Ballet, the Stuttgart Ballet, the Kirov Ballet, the Bolshoi Ballet, and the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Spatt's photographs have appeared in the major dance magazines of the world, and she has published several books. Her photographic archive and library includes more than 500,000 images.

Louis Péres is a dance photographer who has published collections of photographs of Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Ivan Nagy. He has photographed the Royal Ballet of London and American Ballet Theatre, among others.
