View of the first Hampton Court Bridge constructed in London, by Samuel Stevens and Benjamin Ludgator. It was an exotic seven-span, 20-foot wide, timber road bridge. It was in the Chinoiserie style, characteristic of the mid 18th century, having pagoda shaped roofs and Chinese-influenced pierced curvilinear spans. The print also pictures boat traffic on the Thames around the bridge. An architectural rendering of the bridge viewed from above is shown in the lower margin. The bridge was not structurally sound and was rebuilt in 1778. It has since been replaced twice, most recently in the 1930s.
