18th-century collectors would sometimes paste an eclectic display of their prints right on the walls of so-called "print rooms," setting them within paper frames glued to the walls. A few of these rooms still survive intact in British country houses, and a Swedish version is shown here.
Pictured at left and right: A "print room" in a Swedish historic house displays views of European sites, surrounded by hand-painted borders painted directly on the wall -- and even the door (lower left).
